Here at Blackdown Blogs, we have our own idea of how many words a blog post should have but we thought it wouldn’t hurt to do a bit of research…before just telling you what we think !

Modern Life explains that “The internet is changing the way we read information. No longer are we constrained by a physical medium – we don’t have a fixed number of pages to fill, nor a certain column inch quotient to meet. Too little and readers will be finished in the blink of an eye – and too many words could mean your audience is gone before the reach the final paragraph.

If your topic befits it, write in-depth 5,000 word articles. If you’re aiming for a more leisurely (and entertaining) read, it may be worthwhile considering that most popular blogs have an average of 100-250 words per article.”

Dave Taylor of askdavetaylor.com says “I’m reminded of a common piece of advice from good development editors in the publishing business about how long a chapter or book should ultimately be: write just enough to cover the material at the appropriate level of detail, then stop….”

Garry Conn runs a website which gives tips on how to make money online. His rule of thumb is that “until you can get a better feel for your readership, be fairly standardized with the length of your posts. By default I would recommend that each post be limited to around 500 words or less. You can to consider that many readers live very busy lives and their time they can spend in reading your blog.”

The Blogpod1 website says “The industry average length of a blog posting is between 100 and 249 words.”

Here at Blackdown Blogs, we like our blogs to be a minimum of 300 words long. And hey presto…this blog is exactly 300 words long!
